FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition Of Science And Technology)  is an international non-profit organization that helps promote STEM in youth activities. It is a robotics community for ages 4-18 that prepares the youth for the future. Under FIRST, teams conduct research, fundraise, and design and build a robot which they will compete with at annual challenges. FIRST promotes many values which they encourage teams to follow. These core values include: cooperation, teamwork, learning, sportsmanship, community involvement and gracious professionalism. Gracious professionalism, coined by Dr. Woodie Flowers, encourages teams to be competitive but also respectful and kind.
